Sea Turtle 8K Stock Footage - Hatchlings, Mating & Behaviour on the Southern Great Barrier Reef
The Southern Great Barrier Reef is one of the most vibrant ecosystems in the world, full of marine life, crystal clear waters and coral gardens. Among its most iconic residents are the green sea turtles, which Tom Park has been filming for over 3 years now.
This 4K, 6K and 8K stock footage library and archive collection was captured during the production of Tom Park’s acclaimed natural history film "Circle of Life", which was recognised and gained entry into the prestigious Wildscreen Festival. This archive collection offers breathtaking shots of sea turtles that didn’t make the final cut of the film. From the exhilarating rush of turtle hatchlings running toward the ocean at sunset, to turtle hatchlings swimming through crystal clear waters of The Southern Great Barrier Reef, Green Sea Turtles mating at sunset, and to the serene elegance of turtles gliding over vibrant coral reefs, these breathtaking shots are available for license.
The Southern Great Barrier Reef is one of the world’s most critical habitats for sea turtles, particularly the green sea turtle. This part of the reef offers the perfect conditions for both nesting and feeding, with vibrant coral reefs, and sandy beaches. Here, turtles can be seen at various stages of their life cycle from newly hatched hatchlings making their perilous journey to the ocean, to adult turtles mating in the shallow waters, and nesting on the beach at sunset. This diversity and beauty are encapsulated in the 8K footage captured for Tom Park’s acclaimed natural history film, Circle of Life, and now you can access some of the breathtaking moments that the film didn’t have time to include, these stunning never before seen moments, for your own projects, films and documentaries.
What makes this footage truly special is the access we were granted to these extraordinary moments - moments that are not often witnessed, let alone captured on film. However, not every shot made the final cut of the film, and this is where you come in: The breathtaking shots that didn’t make it to the screen are available in our ultra high definition, 4K, 6K and 8K stock footage library, offering a unique and authentic perspective on sea turtle behaviour.
The footage includes:
Turtle Hatchlings Emerging from the Sand: Capturing the urgent and instinctual race of hatchlings to the ocean, this footage showcases one of nature’s most miraculous events, Green Sea Turtle Hatchlings racing towards the ocean at sunset as they navigate their perilous journey to the sea.
Mating Sea Turtles in the Coral Gardens: Filming the courtship and mating rituals of green sea turtles in the vibrant coral reefs offers a rare glimpse into their reproductive behaviours. These moments were filmed in the heart of the Southern Great Barrier Reef, where the coral gardens are teeming with life, providing the perfect backdrop to these intimate interactions.
Adult Green Sea Turtles Nesting: The footage captures the nesting of Green Sea Turtles as they dig their body pit, lay their eggs, and drag themselves back down the beach towards the ocean.
Green Sea Turtles Among the Reef & Cleaning: There are additionally plenty of breathtaking moments and shots featuring turtles among vibrant coral gardens, or cleaning at the local cleaning stations.
